As an Easter rite Catholic, I enjoyed reading the article by Jim Roberts entitled, "Who God Is" (CNT, June 19).
The doctrine of the Holy Spirit has not occupied the attention of Catholic theologians Even when we look at the decrees of the Second Vatican Council, we see only scattered references to the Holy Spirit. Pope Paul VI in 1973, spoke of this grave lack of teaching.
I think a distinction needs to be made. In the Western Church, with St. Thomas Aquinas, and most theologians emphasizing the transcendence of God, "grace" becomes a static thing, something that God bestows upon human beings. It is an infused, God-assisted habit of doing what God ...
