I had not planned to attend the ordinations on the boat in the St. Lawrence river. When I received the kind invitation from ordinand Michele Birch-Conery to attend as one of her guests, I thought about it for several days before accepting. My hesitations had nothing to do with Michele, a woman I have come to appreciate as a person of spirit and courage. Rather, the reservations took the form of numerous questions but ordination in general and the ordinations of Roman Catholic Women Priests in particular. Those questions remain with me, and need ongoing and frank conversations from many different perspectives for fresh answers to emerge.
