HOW does the study which shows that children develop better if they are looked after by their mothers make you feel? Is it a) suicidal, b) furious and defensive, c) philosophical - studies are like buses, there'll be another one along soon, d) ready to give up work immediately, or e) determined to stay at work and have the kids adopted?
If your answer is a,b,c,d, and e then, congratulations, madam, you are entirely normal and at one with the 55 per cent of British women with kids under five who go out to earn a living. Only a monster or a moron could read the study's findings without experiencing a prickle of doubt. It's not nice ...
