When exactly is the harvest moon: September, October or November?
Any of the above - or none. It depends on who's naming the moons. In northern farming areas such as Minnesota, common moon-naming tradition puts the full moon nearest the fall equinox (the first day of autumn, around Sept. 22) as the harvest moon. By that measure, you just missed it. It was Sept. 17. But sometimes it's an October harvest moon. In 2009, for example, the full moon on Oct. 4 will be closer to the fall equinox than the one occurring Sept. 4.
