SEOUL, Oct 4 Asia Pulse - Sales by South Korea's five major auto companies showed a lackluster performance in September, hindered by low production and weak domestic sales of the nation's top two major carmakers, the companies said Tuesday.

Hyundai Motor Co. (KSE:005380), Kia Motors Corp. (KSE:000270) and three other carmakers saw their combined sales decline 1.1 per cent from a year earlier to 382,221 units in September.

During the reported month, domestic sales declined 9.4 per cent year-on-year to 82,303 units, while exports rose 4.5 per cent from a year ago to 299,918 units.
