U.S. FOODSERVICE completed the sale of its SOFCO division in New York to BUNZL DISTRIBUTION MIDCENTRAL, INC., a subsidiary of BUNZL PLC, a UK-based distribution and outsourcing company. The SOFCO division is a specialty distributor of janitorial, health care, industrial packaging and paper products with sales in 2004 of about $175 million.
CARGILL INC. agreed to buy DEGUSSA AG'S food ingredients business for $670 million, effectively strengthening its range of texturant systems and flavoring capabilities.
