Affordable health care is a problem for millions of Americans.
* Of the 45 million Americans without health insurance, more than 60 percent work for a small business or are dependent upon someone who does.
The current health care system discriminates against small businesses.
* Small businesses have little buying power and few affordable options-five or fewer insurers control at least three-quarters of the small group market in most states (GAO, 2002). The lack of competition is contributing to double-digit rate increases for many small businesses and a resulting rise in the number of uninsured small business employees.
