As IBM prepares to roll out OS/2 2.1, there is still a dearth of brand-name applications designed to take advantage of the operating system's 32-bit architecture. The forthcoming releases of Lotus Development Corp.'s Ami Pro 3.0 and WordPerfect Corp.'s WordPerfect 5.2 will make word processing the first OS/2 application category to see serious competition.
Already in IBM's corner with OS/2 versions of 1-2-3 and Freelance Graphics, Lotus plans to start shipping Ami Pro 3.0 for OS/2 by the third quarter.
