Almost 10 million US households will have a networked storage device by 2010, up from the current 300,000, according to the report "Storage and Management for the Connected Home" from Parks Associates. Such devices connect directly to a network as if they were a PC and allow centralized storage and sharing of music, movies, home videos and other files. They generally come with substantial storage capacity and are also used to back-up important files--checkbook data, mailing lists, correspondence, resumes and the like.
