One of the most common, dangerous and costly sources of workplace accidents is the uncontrolled release of electrical energy. Every year in the United States, accidents resulting from the uncontrolled release of electrical energy account for approximately 120 deaths and 50,000 employee injuries. Inadequate Lockout/Tagout of electrical systems is one of the most common Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) violations and the resulting fines can total as much as $70,000 per occurrence.
