Bears and baboons don't get blisters. In fact, humans are the only animals known to get blisters. Blisters are small bubbles of fluid that form just below the surface of the skin. They are usually caused by back-and-forth rubbing. Lots of research is being done on blisters because everyone gets them at some time or another. Scientists have found that getting blisters can be serious business. Blisters can stop a soccer player on the way to score and make walking painful enough to force a hiker to halt. Blisters can even occasionally be dangerous when they become a site of infection. President Coolidge's son Calvin Jr. died because of a blister he got while playing tennis.
