Oct. 8--BEIJING -- Chinese electronics makers Changhong Corp. and Amoi Electronics Ltd. will produce high-definition DVD players in the HD DVD format promoted by Toshiba Corp. of Japan, local media and company representatives said Saturday.
The two Chinese companies opted for HD DVD because it is relatively "mature" and supported by most DVD player content providers, China's Economic Reference News reported.
A spokesman for Xiamen-based Amoi Electronics said the company would profit most from the Toshiba format. He declined to say how much Amoi paid Toshiba or the number of HD DVD players to be produced.
