UPGRADE FOR CAPITAL CITY. TT$20 million is to be spent in an upgrade for the capital city, Port of Spain, reports Caribbean Net News (Aug.19, 2005). Local government minister Rennie Dumas said this would involve improvement works to the city's road network system. It would mean the replacing of public telephone lines as well as electricity power lines underground and the reconstruction of drains and sidewalks. There will also be the construction of recreational parks in 14 of the island's regional corporations. This, he added, was in keeping with the country's mission of achieving developed-nation status by year 2020.
