Flats plan for hotel site scrapped.(News)

PLANS to knock-down a North Wales hotel and build a block of flats were yesterday withdrawn by developers.

The U-turn came after the scheme for the Bay Court Hotel in Beach Road, Benllech, on Anglesey's south east coast, sparked a storm of protest.

Developers wanted to replace the hotel with a five-storey complex of 43 apartments, with an underground car park.

Oldham-based developers Westshield Ltd, which acquired the prime site for pounds 1.5m from Northern Leisure in the spring, had talks with Anglesey planning chiefs last week to thrash out reaction to their controversial application.
