Oct. 8--Stephanie Pappas thought about filing for bankruptcy for three years, but Friday she finally filled out the forms.
Pappas is $30,000 in debt including unpaid medical bills and a mobile home she can't sell. And she was worried she wouldn't be able to get a clean slate when a new bankruptcy law takes effect Oct. 17.
"I wasn't ever going to be able to get caught up plus be able to live," said Pappas, who has one son. "It's a fresh start, I guess. That's what I'm hoping."
Pappas is one of many Utahns rushing into U.S. Bankruptcy Court to beat the Oct. 17 deadline.
