WHEN the latest controversy flared up about charges levied by a fast-growing number of %%hole in the wall&& cashpoints, the Post Office strode into the row as a champion of the consumer.
Backed by a survey pointing out that the number of cash withdrawals at Post Office branches has trebled in the past year to almost one million a day, the Post Office promised, in a joint project with Bank of Ireland, to increase the free cashpoints in its branches by more than 300 to a minimum 1,000.
