LONDON - There are hundreds of public squares in London - grassy, leafy oases offering a few moments' respite from the city's hubbub. Little known to visitors is the great number of private squares, too.
Thus, it's a great bonus to discover that your lodgings back up to one. And that is the signature attribute of a pleasant boutique hotel, the Montague on the Gardens.
With a room that overlooked an expansive rectangular garden shared by several other buildings, we were astonished at how quiet the night was here. Compared to previous stays in trendy SoHo and bustling Paddington, a room at the Montague felt positively residential.
