Randy D'Herde had wanted to become a doctor, but the allure of running the family hardware business proved to be too strong. In 2000, he returned to the sleepy fishing village of Port Aransas, Texas, and joined his father in running Bilmore & Son Hardware, which was founded by his grandfather in 1954.
Since returning from college, D'Herde has revitalized the business in his role of general manager and co-owner. Under his leadership, the Do it Best store's gross profit has increased from 38 percent to 46 percent and sales have increased more than 66 percent.
