Oct. 8--Jamaica-based shop owner Calverton Brown travels to South Florida every few weeks to buy computers and stationery for his office supply store in Kingston. He spends likely half a million dollars a year in the area for his seven-employee business, CAG's Ltd. Plus, he doles out thousands more dollars during his two- and three-day trips on transport, food and other expenses.
Spending like Brown's is so vital to South Florida's trade-linked economy that airlines, hotels and other companies aggressively market to capture their share of the Caribbean market.
