The Year of the Woman has had small impact on the field of journalism, where only 34% of those employed are female and less than 10% are in positions of responsibility. The perception of the field as a white, male club has enforced this with women journalists maintaining ranks with their male colleagues, even to the extent of handling Hillary Rodham Clinton rather roughly during the presidential campaign because she did not fit into any of the traditional roles. This uneasiness with women in roles of authority will need to change in order for all journalists on order for women to achieve equality in news work.
