Stromberg adjusts to Fremd's benefit.(Sports Extra)

On one shoulder, the competitive individual told Christy Stromberg the No. 1 singles spot was hers. She had possessed it since she stepped on to Fremd's tennis courts as a freshman.

There was no way someone, especially a freshman, was going to take it away from her as a senior.

On the opposing shoulder, the team captain pushed her to think about what was best for the Vikings. She had to take her personal feelings out of the equation.

If the freshman beat the previous No. 1 player fair and square, then so be it. It would only make Fremd as a whole stronger.

The decision was difficult, but easy.
