The journey through Jordan was the biggest challenge of my life; a marathon of blistering heat and searing pain - but it was something I felt I had to do. The Middle East has fascinated me ever since I read Tales From The Arabian Nights as a child; it's the cradle of civilisation.
The idea for our TV show, Neil Morrissey's Excellent Adventure, was to follow in the footsteps - or camel steps - of Lawrence of Arabia, who spent time in these parts, fighting his guerilla campaign in World War I. Of course, compared to Lawrence, I had it easy.
