Oct. 18--AVERAGE GAS PRICE IN STATE DROPS TO $2.90 PER GALLON: The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline dropped 6 cents in California, according to federal data released Monday.

Consumers are paying $2.902 a gallon for gasoline in the state, compared with $2.964 last week. Nationally, motorists saw prices plummet 12 cents a gallon to $2.725, said the Energy Information Administration. The national pump price has fallen 20 cents in the past two weeks but is still up 69 cents from a year ago. California's prices are sliding but at a slower rate, down only 7 cents since Oct. 3. In the state, fuel prices are still up 50 cents from a year ago.
