The global inkjet cartridge market is big business, so much so that, as well as the third-party companies selling their own-brand cartridges or refills, a substantial number of counterfeit cartridges are being sold.
Genuine original cartridge prices are often criticised as being too expensive, but manufacturers say that ink is costly to develop. The business model for desktop inkjet printers is to sell cheap and recoup the manufacturing and development costs by charging a high price for the consumables.
