The legal action brought in the US by Advanced Micro Devices against Intel has the feel of something tangible about it. Intel has already been warned by the FairTrade Commission in Japan for the same practises and there is a continuing investigation within the European Commission into Intel's rebate practises, which has suddenly come back alive.
Put simply, if it can be shown by AMD that Intel offered rebates to customers purely because those customers refused to conduct any business with AMD, and if at the same time it can prove that Intel is dominant in PC processor chips, then Intel is likely to find itself found guilty under European law.
