Last year I reported on the state of what is known as portable navigation systems, or as many call them "NAV" systems. While these portable NAV systems are a much better buy than a factory-installed unit, you can take the portable NAV unit with you from car to car and the price is a bargain when compared to an OEM model.
For the most part, I have always felt that a street/road map that can be purchased for a few bucks was a much better buy. Also, there is always the safety question of someone having an accident by taking their eyes off the road to program or view their NAV system or to see where they were on the screen map.
