Radio Bandung, a weekly magazine of Asian and Pacific Islander news and audio art, is broadcast every Monday from 10 to 11 p.m. on WBAI, 99.5 FM, in New
York City. The name comes from the 1955 conference of nonaligned nations held in Bandung, Indonesia. "Malcolm X often referred to the |spirit of Bandung' as an inspiration for African-Americans," says Lawrence Chua, one of the radio program's founders. "It is a very resonant conference for people of color, because it is the first time all of these nations got together and tried to reach out beyond their own borders."
