Team not liable in death of pilot.(News)

A judge has ruled a Naperville-based aerobatic flight team is not liable for the accidental death of one of its pilots.

Cook County Circuit Judge Donald Devlin ruled that a certification form signed by 61-year-old Wheaton resident Keith Evans months before his death released the flight team and its members from any liability.

Evans was killed Oct. 1, 1999, while practicing formations with the team in the skies above Kendall County near Oswego. The wing of Evans' single-engine World War II-era plane clipped another plane in the formation, sending his aircraft plummeting into a cornfield. The other pilot landed safely.
