For one half of soccer, 10th-seeded Marmion had exactly the right formula working for it in an upset bid over second-seeded Naperville North, as the Cadets only trailed 1-0 at halftime of a Class AA regional semifinal Wednesday in Naperville.
"We knew we had to keep good defensive shape, we had to play smart, and we had to get a little lucky, and we did all those things," said Marmion coach Kevin O'Connor.
The second half was a different story. The Huskies (20-2) scored five times in the second frame en route to a 6-0 win and a matchup against Naperville Central for a regional title Friday.
