The European Union has added Tuscan Olive Oil and Genoa Basil to its list of over 700 products that enjoy geographically-based name protection.
'Tuscia' olive oil and 'Basilico Genovese'--a herb famous for its use in pesto--have been awarded Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status, the term given to foodstuffs that are produced, processed and prepared in a given geographical area using traditional methods.
