The person who watches bullying and never helps the child targeted is just as much a part of the problem as the bully, author Barbara Coloroso told an audience Thursday at the Holiday Inn in Salina.
Children have to learn that being a bystander to bullying is wrong, she said. They can't be afraid to stand up for and talk to a child who is being picked on, even if that puts them at risk of being bullied, too. Adults must do the same.
"How often do we do it?" the Littleton, Colo., resident asked. "How often do we model it?"
