Mayor Dave Cieslewicz, who served as executive director of the environmental group 1000 Friends of Wisconsin before his election to the city's top job, is often at his best when he adds a green touch to policy initiatives. That's certainly the case with the move by the mayor and officials of Monona Terrace to get the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed building certified as an environmentally friendly, energy-efficient convention center.
Coming at a point when energy expenses are skyrocketing, it makes sense to increase the center's energy efficiency. But seeking "green building" certification also makes sense from a marketing standpoint.
