Rational thinking on technology: IT and other technologies help solve problems. They are not solutions.

Three noted research concerns, each in its own way, have recently stated what we have been preaching all along: Operations, and the supply chain in particular, employ technology to achieve business goals. The supply chain is not driven by any technology--RFID, wireless, sensors, etc. Technology "solutions" don't solve business problems. They need to be integrated to effect business process change, leading to business improvement.

How can this thinking be newsworthy? Because no matter how true it is or how often it is said, we have been brainwashed into looking for the quick fix.
