Buick and Oldsmobile are in a class by themselves with 3000-pound tow ratings

Detroit likes to use the term "fullsize" even for cars smaller than the Chevrolet Caprice and Buick Roadmaster. That's really stretching a sales point. The cars tested here have, until recently, been called "mid-size." To me, that's still reality. So, for this article, I'll call the Buick LeSabre Limited and Oldsmobile Eighty Eight Royale LSS "mid-size" cars, rather than "full-size."

Mid-size cars are usually rated to tow 2000 pounds, 1000 pounds or nothing. A couple of years ago, Buick and Oldsmobile broke that staid tradition, and raised their tow ratings to 3000 pounds. ...
