Oct. 12--Johnson Controls Inc. won its first contract to supply hybrid electric batteries for a line of luxury vehicles to be produced by a European automaker.
The announcement came as executives of the Glendale company told investors it will post record sales and earnings in the fiscal year that began Oct. 1.
Development of hybrid-electric vehicles is poised to boom as gasoline prices surge and consumers shed less fuel-efficient vehicles, like sport utility vehicles, and buy cleaner-burning, more efficient vehicles.
