NEW YORK -- After four years of creating and selling his collection in Europe, Ahmed Akkad is ready to give the U.S. a shot -- again.
For the first time since 1989 he is selling his signature collection here, out of the Gabriel & Kramer Enterprises showroom at 95 Fifth Ave. near East 17th Street.
Akkad had a collection that at one time hung briefly in Henri Bendel and Bloomingdale's. But, he admits, he knew next to nothing about the actual tailoring of a garment and nothing about the way retailers worked. He says that his efforts, although creative, were "raw, and technically needed so much help."
