BANVERKET's new long-term plan has a budget of SKr 107.7 billion ($US 13.8 billion) for capital investment for the period 2004-2015. This compares with SKr 38 billion for the previous plan covering the 1998-2007 period.
The new deal was signed in February 2004. "It took about three years to come up with the new plan," Mr Hans Ohman, director of Banverket's Infrastructure Management Department, told IRJ. "Banverket and the National Roads Authority put forward some proposals, but the negotiations with the government resulted in a huge boost for rail, which we did not expect."
