If Americans are suffering from disaster fatigue, certainly it is understandable. From the start of 2005, the generous-spirited have contributed billions of dollars to assist victims of the tsunami, numerous tornadoes, Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Stan and Wilma, and now the Pakistan and Indian earthquake.
We gave an unprecedented $1.3 billion to tsunami victims, and so far another $1.8 billion to support the recovery from Hurricane Katrina. But a dangerous gap bigger than a Himalayan gorge is growing between the $312 million the United Nations has requested to deal with victims of the Pakistan and Indian earthquake and the $90 ...
