toy soldiers, as a concept, are as old as recorded civilization. In the time of the Pharaohs, toy soldiers were made of wood, stone or clay. By the turn of the 20th century, lead became the primary source material, to be replaced with other metals and plastic when environmental concerns regarding lead became too great in the 1960s.
Eberhard Rohm has 800 toy soldiers displayed on shelves throughout his Greenwich home. The collector is a partner at the international law firm Arent Fox, headquartered in Washington, D.C., with offices in New York City.
