1 Drastic growth of the production capacity
China already has more than 200 methanol producers today and the production capacity has reached 6.0 million t/a. Despite a great number of producers, most of them have a capacity of around 10 000 t/a. These units are mainly constructed in synthetic ammonia plants. The synthesis process is mostly the medium and high-pressure process. The methanol production in China features small scale, outdated technology, great energy consumption, poor product quality and high cost and therefore can not compete with imported products.
