CHICAGO - Mohamed A. El-Erian - who sources say was on a very short list of handpicked successors to William H. Gross as chief investment officer - instead is joining Harvard Management Co. as president and chief executive.
Mr. El-Erian is a managing director and head of the emerging-markets portfolio management team at Pacific Investment Management Co. LLC in Newport Beach, Calif. He manages emerging- markets-debt investments of more than $28 billion.
Within the next six months, he will move to Cambridge, Mass., and replace Jack R. Meyer in overseeing the management of the $25.9 billion endowment of Harvard ...
