To the Editor:

Your informative article Oct. 26 began with the words "Anti-smokers ..." You continued to explain that smoking rates in New York state have dropped below the national average, largely due to efforts of the state's tobacco-control program.

Those directly involved in tobacco-control programs are very much pro-smokers. We are interested in helping individuals addicted to nicotine quit the habit.

Deaths from all forms of tobacco use continue to escalate; half of all people who smoke will die as a result of their smoking. Those involved in tobacco control are against the misleading advertising of tobacco companies that appeal to children every way they ...
