Peace talks look set to start between the government and the rebel Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) in Nigeria's capital, Abuja. This follows a visit there by transitional national assembly leader Mohammad al-Amin Khalifah on 9 March. No date for the talks has been set. In February, Economy & Investment Planning Minister Ali el-Hag Mohammad led a government team to Uganda to meet with disputed SPLA leader John Garang. This paved the way for the Abuja talks (MEED 26:2:93). The government has expressed hopes of getting all factions of the SPLA to attend.
