Oct. 29--Lake Forest-based Tenneco Automotive Inc., once thought to be on the road to bankruptcy, has managed to steer around the deep potholes that have claimed other parts suppliers.
Tenneco reported a third-quarter profit of 23 cents a share this week and is on pace for its best year since being spun off in 1999 from conglomerate Tenneco Inc.
That comes when most suppliers are struggling to make money, or like Delphi Corp., have plunged into bankruptcy and face long, bitter fights in court with unions, creditors and customers.
