Portland, Maine's motto, "I will rise again," is perfect for a city that has been destroyed and renamed four times since its creation. Last time was in 1866, when a July 4th celebration torched most of Portland's commercial buildings and hundreds of homes. No wonder then that a walk through the cobblestone streets while admiring the brick buildings of Portland's Old Port district can feel like a Victorian architecture tour. Only the modern prints of brightly colored fishermen in the gallery windows bring you back to 2005.
