Oct. 29--A move by Illinois legislators to close down the state's riverboat gaming industry was given little chance of succeeding, casino representatives and Wall Street analysts said Friday.

Most thought the idea could be rejected by next week.

The Illinois House approved a bill late Thursday, by a 67-42 vote, that would end operations at nine riverboats.

If passed by the Senate and signed by the governor, the bill would eliminate about $800 million in annual gaming taxes from the state budget and wipe out some 9,000 jobs directly attached to the riverboat gaming vessels.
