Nov. 1--PEORIA -- The Peoria Ag Lab is adding yet another product to its well-stocked shelf.
The National Center for Agricultural Utilization Research, a division of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, has helped develop such diverse concoctions as super slurper, fantesk and Z-trim -- all of which have found their way into the marketplace over the years.
This time, it's Xtend, a slow-dissolving sweetener, soon to be marketed by Cargill Inc., the Minneapolis-based food giant.
Derived from sucrose and maltose, Xtend is a natural -- rather than artificial -- sweetener, said Ag Lab research chemist Greg Cote.
