Nov. 1--It may be the most indispensable company in St. Louis that you've never heard of. And it's in trouble.
Southern Products Co., which supplies the frozen-custard mix to Ted Drewes, on Friday filed for bankruptcy protection. Southern also supplies ice cream mix and other products to a number of fast-food restaurants, among them Dairy Queen and White Castle.
Company leaders did not return a phone message Monday. Details of what led to the bankruptcy filing were not available.
