Some of the world's finest fossil cycad trunks occur in the Henry Mountains and Moab areas of southeastern Utah. The most beautifully colored examples are found in the Late Jurassic Brushy Basin Member of the Morrison Formation, but larger trunks, more than 2 meters long, have been recovered from the Early Cretaceous Cedar Mountain Formation. Hundreds of specimens have been recovered by a small number of collectors during the past seventy years, and specimens are still being discovered, but at an ever-decreasing rate. Although little formal study has been given to cycads from this area, at least three new species have been proposed from the Cedar Mountain Formation.
