To the Editor:
Islam is one of the great universal religions of mankind, with perhaps 1.3 billion adherents. Those who know history understand the contributions Islam has made to Western science and culture. Those who follow the news have seen the humanitarian teachings of Islam in practice.
Generous offers of support came to the victims of Hurricane Katrina from Muslim nations. After the recent major earthquake in South Asia, Muslims worked to help quake victims even as they observed the holy days of Ramadan by fasting from dawn to dusk.
So why did President George W. Bush adopt the language of those who blindly hate and demonize the Islamic ...
